Rafting on Dunajec River

The Dunajec river is where extremes meet: it combines rafting along fairy-tale surroundings enclosed by calcareous rocks with an injection of adrenaline on the way. Called the queen river of Polish mountains, the Dunajec beautifully meanders at the feet of the iconic summits of Trzy Korony (Three Crowns). A carefully selected part of the 274 kilometres of its length is where the most impressive scenery of the Pieniny mountains casts pleasant shadow on your dinghy as you are challenging its stream with the power of your muscles.

Tour Overview

Rafting down the Dunajec will make you relieve your stress, strengthen your family ties or make for a perfect integration activity with your team members. This 2-hour water adventure will be a professionally organised one – and so to the last inch. You will be provided with all the instructions and equipment necessary to grab your paddles and feel perfectly secure inside your dinghy. Each kilometre you take will let you admire the incredible images of Pieniny which is combined with the sightseeing of nearby attractions.
A typical rafting adventure starts in the core of the Tatras – the city of Zakopane, located 100 kilometres south of Krakow. This is where you will head 50 kilometres eastwards to the cosy mountain village of Sromowce Nizne, just in the centre of Pieninski National Park. Before you accept the challenge and tame the Dunajec River Gorge with a group of 3, 5 to 7 other participants, you will be able to sightsee a massive dam built near Niedzica. This is where the breathtaking view of Lake Czorsztyn and opposite 14-century Niedzica Castle will give you a nice prelude to the active rest you are about to take. After you leave the dinghy, there will also be a UNESCO-listed Gothic shrine of wood in Debno waiting for you to see. The overall time of your rafting tour will require about 8 hours to be taken.
Certified dinghies. Helmets, paddles and waterproof containers for you electronic devices. Changing rooms. The organisers of rafting along the Dunajec have thoughtfully provided everything that is needed to comfortably forget about it all while indulging yourself in this white water madness. After a short training session, you will board your dinghy with the assistance of a competent instructor. This is also who will tell you a lot about the attractions passed on the way to Szczawnica resort. If you happen to travel with your children and feel the urge to take the rafting along Dunajec, worry not! The river represents the WWI-WWII category on a 6-degree scale of difficulty in terms of rafting. It means family-friendly conditions ensured with regard to this activity, while the thrill is still there. Paradoxically, rafting – as an extreme team sport – does not require perfect condition from every participant. Following the river course at the height of Dunajec River Gorge (according to the legend – owing its number of meanders to a knight chasing a massive snake that channelled them out during its escape) will be more than satisfactory to everyone providing their strength to cover the distance. Taken in the full sun of spring and summer, cooling with the splashing water of Dunajec and refreshing with the mountain air that comes in light blows around the Pieniny, the rafting adventure at their feet will make you regain your strength before your holiday is even finished.
